Dunn - What’s the lore?

I’m trying to get into the Dunn series on Max. However, I’m not understanding the lore behind it. I know people were oppressed and spice is a valuable commodity but that’s about what I get. Plus something about a woman cult that wants to create perfect people and life. Can someone please explain this series to me? Thanks for your input I do appreciate it and your time.
