Which Griddle to Get?

I'll be getting a griddle soon, most likely in a month or so.

I'm kinda torn between the Weber Slate 36" and the SoloStove Steelfire griddles.

I REALLY like the stainless steel grilling surface of the SoloStove. It looks like it would be MUCH easier to clean and maintain. But it's got some downsides I'm not sure I can live with:

  • Propane tank sits on the rear side. Makes it harder to replace the tank when needed.
  • Side tables are on the small side, and aren't solid steel. Can't put much on them, and you'd have to be careful to not drip thru the perforated shelf.
  • No storage underneath the griddle.
  • The stand is enclosed with cloth panels. Doubt they'd look very good after a year or two.
  • Grease pan appears to be a tad smaller than what might be needed.
  • A bit pricier than the Weber Slate.

I like the Weber Slate (36") as well. I like:

  • Larger cooking surface.
  • Plenty of shelf space on both sides, plus the pull out shelf on the right.
  • Grease pan seems to be sized well.
  • Temp gauge display on the front can eliminate some guesswork.
  • Ample (enclosed) storage space beneath the griddle.
  • Nice assortment of available accessories.

But the Weber Slate has downsides, too:

  • Griddle surface not nearly as easy to maintain as the SoloStove. From what I've read (and this is probably true of all cold rolled steel griddles) the grill should be cleaned and seasoned after every cook. (SoloStove would only need cleaning).
  • The griddle heat isn't quite as even as the SoloStove across the entire surface.
  • Wind will affect the Slate more than the SoloStove.

I've not owned a griddle before, so I thought I'd pop in here and ask those who've had one for a while offer their advice.
