Please add settings to your games for people who suffer from motion sickness
I am playing a lot of indie games, and I enjoy playing small unknown titles and providing feedback to solo devs, but looking back at what feedback I give the most frequent, it's nearly always about the lack of accessibility features for people who suffer from severe motion sickeness like I do.
So, for anyone reading this that creates games with a first person camera view, please please please allow me to:
- disable head bobbing
- disable motion blur
- disable camera-/mouse smoothing
- change the FOV
- disable chromatic abberation
I understand that all of these have a reason to exist, and it's absolutely fine to have them per default, but if they can't be turned off, you're locking a good chunk of people out of your game.
And in case you don't understand what I am talking about because you're among the lucky people who don't have any of these issues: Motion sickness is a physiological reaction that occurs when the brain receives conflicting signals from the sensory systems. Many people know this from when they try a VR game with direct movement (in contrast to teleporting) for the first time, but for some people this also happens outside of VR. Consequences are nausea, dizziness, a feeling of spinning, cold sweat, headaches, and even vomiting. And this can stay for hours. Let me tell you: This sucks! :(
