Bloom+ Credit Score Boost
For those looking for alternative methods to boost your credit score other than secured credit cards and secured loans, take a look at NFCU's partnership with Bloom+.
Bloom+ is a "Recurring Payment Reporting Tool" designed to help people (especially those with little or no credit history) build their credit by reporting everyday bill payments to TransUnion. Members (18yo+) can choose up to five recurring payments to report including one rent payment, one phone or internet bill, and up to three utility bills (i.e. water, gas, or electricity).
Bloom+ tracks the activity on the payments you selected and reports them monthly to Transunion. Over time, the positive payment history could improve your credit profile.
Missed/late payments are not reported; however, if no payments are detected for three consecutive months, the account will be marked as closed due to inactivity. Closed recurring bills may impact on the member's credit score. The impact on your score will vary based on your overall credit profile.
You can enroll through the NFCU app (in My MakingCents), manage which bills are reported, and opt out any time.
It’s a cool feature they offer and I’ve used it boost my score. So if you're looking for a credit boost other than secured credit cards and loans, check it out and see what you think
