tracheal shave and insurance - grs?

hello,

im wondering if anyone has ever used 'gender affirming care' insurances with their university? in my case, im graduating in june, and i'm looking at the tracheal shave and asked the grs.

it seems i have to pay 6k out of pocket, and the gac insurance can cover upto 5k, but it seems i need a doctor's letter and i can pre-authorize the claim by submitting the paperwork before i even get the surgery. (which seems to be a 4-6 month waitlist).

i'm wondering if anyone has ever done this before? 6k is a lot, and if i do the pre-authorized claim, how soon can i get the reimbursement? will it take more than a month? did anyone ever experience this?
