Long post: Emory Waitlist Recap

Waitlist Discussion

I really wish someone did this in the past for when I missed a waitlist session... so here are some notes that are kind of all over the place but hopefully helpful!

  • Offers this afternoon will come out and maybe tomorrow morning (8-10 people).. might be another small round on Friday
  • 55%-60% of people who have received offers from waitlist have accepted their spots
  • Almost at class size (299)
  • After June 15 and June 20th (deposit deadlines) there will only be 2-3 people
  • Batch this afternoon will be last for a bit
  • After this batch.. numbers don’t matter but candidate traits counts the most (filling in gaps of types of people they don’t have)
  • Looking for anyone who has something unique to offer (ex. Admitting a dancer this week)
  • Won’t be many calls for these offers this afternoon
  • Waitlist applicants will receive a final decision of denial (last week of June probably).. does expect to maintain a waitlist up until orientation
  • Of offers coming out today… almost all of people have reached out to admissions over the last 10 days with updates
  • 3/4ths of the accepted applicants this afternoon have received feeler calls
  • Everything is based on holistic applicant (half people that have admitted so far.. have been below median targets (LSAT and GPA)
  • Needs to achieve certain GPA and LSAT medians
  • Scholarship negotiations: no..not negotiation but maybe reconsideration is a better wording
  • Based award on: how many are enrolled at different law schools and how many students to choose other schools… so their scholarships base on competition scholarships.. I was a little confused on this answer… Grants reconsideration when accepted applicant has received a new scholarship from other schools…rigid formulas
  • Additional feeler will be made out this month
    • Looking for current options and scholarship offers
    • Sometimes will ask questions like “what is this candidate doing with their time now —> can also send updates about how you are spending summer
    • Feeler calls are made when not given enough information.. or because LOCI was a while ago
  • Ideal applicant is the most potential impact
  • Dozens of people admitted off waitlist were admitted because of hearing about new jobs from the summer —> employers are telling them that they really value to the job market
