If, just if you were born not gay, would you likely be a homophobic person or an ally?
I sometimes ask myself that question and imagine if things weren't like reality. Born in a heavily homophobic family, I always have to act tough and "straight" in front of everyone, especially my dad who never went to school and never learns to accept new concepts that are beyond his safe zone. So I always assume that I have most of his traits, like father-like son kinda stuff. That could mean I could be a total homophobic person just like him.
One time in secondary school, I used to have a hatred toward a gay boy who is really feminine. I even told my friend that his femininity annoyed me and kinda made me mad for no reason. But isn't that how homophobe works? I was young and uneducated about the concepts LGBTQ+ back then, so when something new came into my life, instead of figuring out what it was, I put on a barrier and started hating it. That's just stupid.
I'm proud that I was born as who I am now. I'm gay and it's totally normal. The boy in secondary school was gay and super feminine and that's normal. One day, I will confront my homophobic dad and come out to him. Even if he doesn't accept it, what else can I do? Turn into a unicorn and fly away?
