I had very, very high expectations for Obsession after a month of it being praised to high heavens by critics, Reddit and people I know IRL. Honestly I was pretty skeptical because it’s not often that movies *this* praised fully live up expectations.

Gotta say though, Obsession really does live up to all the hype it’s gotten. It’s very rare for a horror movie to really make me go “holy shit“ every few minutes. Once the story kicks off, the level of tension and dread is maintained pretty much nonstop throughout the entire movie. I love that we really don’t get any explanation for how the One Wish Willow works - it just makes what’s going on scarier and we‘re left to assume and come to our own conclusions.

I also thought it was cool that the movie slowly showed Bear to be the real villain in all this. Dude was too chickenshit to confess his feelings to Nikki, romanticized being with her and basically turned her insane and unhinged because he just loved the idea of being her object of affection.

I can’t praise Inde Naverette enough - talk about fucking COMMITTING to the role. The movie arguably wouldn’t be anywhere near as effective if it weren’t for her performance. I also can’t believe Curry Barker is only 26 because this feels like a movie made by a horror veteran.

Go watch this if you haven’t.

Gotta love it when you finally watch an incredibly hyped movie and it actually lives up to hype
