what to do if my account got hacked?

I've been waiting for about a month for a response from Reddit regarding my original account, which I think I've had for 5 years, being hacked. How? Credentials stolen? None of my Gmail accounts have been pawned, so what should I do? Just accept that my account is gone forever and stay on this one?
