**grapevine (2025) - November 2025**

as above so below

In 2021, I stumbled upon a Nintendo Switch drawing game called Art Sqool. A game with a surreal style, it included unique stamps, brushes, and a limited palette, in order to help you create unusual artwork of your very own.

That was something I'd very much been wanting to do, and it was on sale for $1, so I picked it up and got to work right away. Most of the artworks that I created were tarot themed, and together they're known as my Art School Tarot series. Sadly, I never ended up completing the entire major arcana.

The last of these artworks was grapevine, which I created in December of 2021. I spent the next few years trying to learn to make similar artwork in more advanced drawing programs, and finally recreated grapevine in Procreate four years later.

Whereas the Art Sqool had a 3D render brush and stamps for objects like the trees, I drew these details from scratch in the remake using standard Procreate brushes.

The character in this artwork is Rat. As his name suggests, he's the world of Galmiun's god of rats. A rather enigmatic sort, he's also the leader of a secretive organization, Galmiun's equivalent of the Illuminati.

The 'eclipse' in the corner was originally made with a modified 'pair of eyes' stamp in Art Sqool, and is meant to have a double meaning, also serving as an all-seeing eye of providence.
