Run into a creative brick wall, what do I do?

I've been building on Brick Rigs for about three years now, and I mostly engage in weapons; missiles, rockets, etc. However, I have a chronic problem which is plaguing me now more than ever; I can't build half the shit I plan to. I am pretty good at detailing things with simple geometry, but I want them to work as well, and I really struggle to do that. I am probably better at logic than the average person, but my skills in it are still mediocre, and I lack knowledge of more advanced mathematics, which are often needed for this sort of the thing. I've asked for help, but especially now I find that it's trickier to come by; people keep their things to themselves, which is understandable.

What do you suggest I do; switch my building style, or keep trying?
