Anxiety and Vyvanse
I’m trying to sort through ADHD, anxiety, and medication options, and I’m curious if anyone has had a similar pattern.
My main issue is constant mental chatter: replaying conversations, thinking through what I should have said, what could happen, what might go wrong, and basically never feeling like my brain is fully quiet. This has been normal for me for years, so I’m wondering if a lot of what I’ve called “anxiety” may actually be untreated ADHD driving rumination.
I tried Vyvanse and did notice some benefits, which made me question whether ADHD is a bigger piece of the puzzle than I realized. I don’t think Vyvanse caused my core symptoms, because the racing thoughts and rumination were already there. It more so made me start questioning what is ADHD, what is anxiety, and what treatment direction makes the most sense.
I stopped taking the Vyvanse because I had minor anxiety at bed time which is the normal time I have it, if i even do. But I immediately turned it to that the Vyvanse caused it. I started at 20mg. The first two weeks were great. The third, not the best. I currently take 20mg Lexapro per day, 20mg propranolol per day at bed time, and 100mg trazadone per day at bedtime. Also have weaned down to 5mg Zepbound per week. When I started Vyvanse, I cold turkey quit 12.5mg per week of Zepbound.
Right now I’m considering discussing options like Vyvanse, guanfacine/Intuniv, Buspar, or possibly combinations with my prescriber. I’m especially curious about people who had anxiety that seemed to come from untreated ADHD.
Did treating ADHD reduce your anxiety/rumination? Did stimulants help quiet the mental chatter, or did something like guanfacine/Intuniv help more with the nervous system side of things?
