Host knowingly rented a Model Y with dangerous sidewall damage, now wants me to spend my vacation fixing it. Turo holding my refund hostage.

Howdy everyone, looking for some feedback to make sure I'm not going crazy or being totally unreasonable here.

I just picked up a Tesla Model Y from a SeaTac parking garage for a family trip. The car had pretty bad rim rash on the wheels, but I documented everything in the app and we headed down I-5 to our Airbnb in Tacoma.

Once we got here and I looked at the car in the full sunlight, I noticed several significant gashes in the tire sidewall right by the bad rim rash. There are literally chunks of rubber missing and the white inner structural cords are totally visible.

I messaged the host right away to point out the safety issue. He replied in the app chat admitting that they already knew about the damage, but claimed it was perfectly fine to drive.

Then it got silly. He wants me to drive the car to a local tire shop they have an account with and wait around to get it fixed myself. No offer of a discount, refund, or compensation for losing a day of my vacation to do his maintenance. He said if I didn't want to do that, I could drive the car all the way back up to SeaTac on a compromised tire to return it.

I called Turo Support to report the safety violation, but they arent too helpful. They're refusing to issue a refund or help me switch into a new vehicle until the host physically has the car back. The host chose to come pick it up tomorrow night instead of letting Turo Roadside tow it (obv to save himself the fee), so Turo is just holding my refund hostage until then.

I'm traveling with my toddler and a rented car sat, so we have zero flexibility and are now completely stranded in Tacoma without a safe car or our money back. (Currently looking at one way rentals on turo and other sites to return to SEA in a week. )

Has anyone dealt with a host admitting to prior safety neglect in writing like this? How do I get past the cs reps support scripts to get an actual supervisor to override this and push the refund through? I'd appreciate any insight or advice on this situation! TIA
