Doubts regarding first year

My senior (who is not from VIT) told me that in the first year, we may not be able to select Engineering Physics in both Semester 1 and Semester 2. However, some others have told me that it is possible.

I have a few questions:

1. Is it possible at VIT Chennai to choose Engineering Physics in both semesters of the first year?
2. If it is possible, what factors determine whether a student gets that combination?
3. What would be the best subject selection for a student joining ECE this year who is more interested in Physics than Chemistry (based on JEE-level interest)?
4. Apart from the Class 12 syllabus, what prerequisite knowledge would be helpful to make the first year comparatively easier?
5. Since I did not study Computer Science in Classes 11 and 12, and some CS-related subjects are taught in the first year, what basic concepts or topics should I learn beforehand to build a good foundation?
6. How is the hostel life at VIT Chennai ?
