What I learned connecting my Reddit account to Claude

I wired up my Reddit account to Claude this week and the thing that surprised me most was how it changes the kind of question you can ask. Instead of "find me a thread about X," I asked it to read across a bunch of subreddits and just tell me the consensus.

My test was a classic rabbit hole: best first DSLR under $600. Normally that's an hour of opening tabs and mentally tallying who recommends what. Claude pulled the relevant r/Cameras and r/AskPhotography threads, summarized the actual agreement (used Canon Rebel or Nikon D5300/D7000 + a nifty fifty), and — this is the part I didn't expect — surfaced the dissent too: half the replies were quietly steering beginners toward mirrorless instead.

That last bit felt important. It wasn't just averaging opinions, it kept the disagreement visible. Honestly more useful than most "best of" listicles.
