Art Solution to Forerunner Architecture - Brutalist for exteriors / most interiors, ornate "shiny" for important areas?
Essentially the title. I'm playing through the original trilogy for the first time and I absolutely love the brutalist look for many Forerunner exteriors. I especially like the use of the more blocky design in The Library, particularly in Halo 2.
I noticed that if CE had the "ornate shiny" design, the first cave reveal would not work as well. The spaces make too much sense. I think the benefit of the brutalist look is how liminal many spaces appear - it makes it clear how unfathomable the Forerunners are, and how humanity is "not" supposed to be there.
However, some of my favorite architecture designs in games (Period!) come from Infinite's Forerunner interiors, such as the chapel-like design of the Silent Auditorium and the sleekness of those blue narrow bridge sections. To me, it showed how much every Halo installation cared for itself, and also how important some areas were to its function.
I feel a partnership between these two styles can help support the lore of the Array while keeping both versions' excellent visual choices. To me, it would make sense that the Forerunners would designate some areas as more aesthetically important while other areas, such as Flood containment zones, which may not deserve the same visual investment.
What do you all think?
*Note: I'm not a lore head, sadly. Please correct me if this idea wouldn't be accurate.
