Hello. I apologize for what might be an overly long and detailed post but I have reached the end of my rope with these flies and am not sure where to turn.

We have been battling an intermittent infestation of these particular flies for years now. We've reached out to various pest control companies and none have managed to provide any sort of successful solution. Most of them suggest that our drains are the problem and treating the drains should fix the issue. This has, however, not dented (so much as resolved) the problem and we've previously tried "trapping" a drain by putting masking tape over it and checking it a few days later only to find 0 flies stuck to the back of the tape.

The flies themselves are small, black/brown humpbacked flies that highly resemble fruit flies but with black eyes instead of red eyes. I \*believe\* these are "Phorid flies" but nobody thus far has confirmed that notion for me. As for the infestation, the "symptoms" are as follows (I apologize ahead of time for any nasty details):

\- The flies come and go in "waves". They seem to mostly die off during the winter and reach a fever pitch during the summer. We will occasionally see a couple here or there during the winter to spring season but not many. During the summer, however, they flood our home in the hundreds to thousands.

\- During the summer they sometimes appear rather suddenly. One day we'll see a few buzzing around in the kitchen and the next day there will be hundreds.

\- They seem to highly favor moist AND cold environments. At the peak of an infestation most of them can be found in the kitchen around the sink area, exhaust and AC vents, and, notably, they climb up the ice chute of our freezer door and into our fridge/freezer

\- The rooms in our house they predominately appear in high numbers are the kitchen, bathrooms, and the laundry room. From what we can tell the two common things these rooms all share are drains and exhaust vents. They will appear in what appear to be completely separated rooms such as the first floor laundry room, second floor kitchen and master bathroom, and upstairs guest bathroom in great number but they are virtually non-existent in the attached garage, for example.

We're really not sure where to go from here. We've tried basically every pest control company that services our area (to no avail) and we've tried treating our drains (also to no avail). We moved in in 2019 not long after its construction and the issue began a couple of years later.
