Potential to extract dye from allokermes spp.

Hey fellow arborists

I live in CO and deal with American Kermes scale (Allokermes SPP.) very often in my PHC focused business. I’ve been doing some reading, and to my surprise found that the color/dye “carmine” traditionally comes from scale insects in the Kermes genus, amongst others.

Now, I realize that Allokermes SPP. is only in the family Kermisidae and not in the genus Kermes, but have any of you fine folks tried extracting dye from this distant relative? I think I’m going to try it either way with a water and an ethanol extraction to see the results for funsies, but curious if anyone in the arboriculture world here has messed around with something similar!
