What's going on with data privacy laws in Australia?

I got a cold call from a real estate agent who told me he got my details from a property address I lived at back in 2015. He then confirmed the name of the database called id4me. Went to their website to get my data removed and… you have to fill out your personal details to do it 🙃 And this company is also a registered government business supplier. How is this allowed??
