do you have to fight?

saw the preview of dragons dogma 2 in the nintendo direct yesterday. it looks really pretty but i don't love super combat heavy games. is this the kind of game you can play without doing much combat? or can i grind to get better gear so fighting isn't so difficult? I enjoy skyrim, ghost of tsushima/yotei, botw/totk etc.
