How to not turn to drinking to deal with mood swings?
I've been sober for a while now, and it's been amazing. After a month, my memory was getting better and my motivations were resurfacing after years of anhedonia.
But since last week, I started getting extreme mood swings. There is 0 external reason for the mood swings because absolutely nothing in my life changed.
And that sudden feeling of depression and anhedonia made me crave alcohol for the first time in a while. So for the past couple of days, I have been turning to alcohol to escape from the sadness. The thing is alcohol does help for like five minutes and then back to feeling low again. Then
I'll take another shot and it keeps going on and on like that.
Alcohol also makes me feel miserable in the long run. On the days when I feel bad, but don't turn to alcohol, eventually, the sadness goes away. But the days I succumb to drinking, I feel absolutely disgustingly miserable for the rest of the day.
So I know that drinking makes me miserable, but in that moment of weakness, I can't help but turn to alcohol like it's some medicine to make my depression go away.
Please help me find a way to curve the cravings. Any tips on ignoring the urges would be great. Doing something to distract myself doesn't work because the anhedonic feeling takes away all the joy of doing anything so I can't even distract myself. I like the part of my brain that makes me feel any sort of joy or even relaxation disappears.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
I genuinely hate alcohol SO much and I love being sober and I wanna stay that way.
