Why? I genuinely don’t understand this candle direction.

I know BBW likes to experiment and think outside the box, and honestly, I give them credit for trying something different. Not every candle has to be vanilla, pumpkin, coconut, or fruit.

But I have to ask… why?

Jalapeño. Pickled Pepper. Chili Pepper. Ghost Pepper.

Maybe I’m missing the vision here, but when I buy candles, I’m looking for something that helps elevate the atmosphere in my home. I want my house to smell cozy, relaxing, fresh, fruity, floral, beachy, gourmand, or luxurious.

I don’t necessarily want it to smell like I’m actively cooking dinner. 😀

What makes this even more interesting is that BBW has talked repeatedly about softness in candle sales over the past several quarters. If candle sales are becoming more challenging, why lean into such niche fragrance concepts?

I understand wanting to capture some of that boutique-brand creativity, but BBW’s strength has always been making fragrances that appeal to a broad audience. They’re a mass-market retailer, not a small niche fragrance house selling candles to a very specific customer base.

Could these be a limited drop? Maybe.

Will there be people who love them? Absolutely.

But even some hardcore candle collectors skipped parts of the recent food collections for the Candle Day drop because they were a little too specific. These pepper scents feel even more niche than that.

Again, I respect the creativity. I really do. I’d rather see experimentation than endless repackages. But where do you draw the line?

This is one of those collections where I’m genuinely curious about the strategy behind it and who the target customer is supposed to be.

Would you buy any of these, or is this a pass for you?
