Central AC unit (somewhat over 10 years old?) now only works for about an hour when turned on before it suddenly stops functioning without reaching set thermostat temperature, usually set to 22C. What is this a sign of?

For context, the issue started this year and I change the duct filters every three months. Hoping to get some answers before calling an HVAC company.
