Dad sent an apology but I don't exactly want to reestablish contact....
After a huge falling out I've been NC/VLC for a year (years of emotional abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, etc). He wrote an email to me apologizing, but I had to ask him specifically what he was apologizing for, and outlined why exactly I was mad. He apologized for those things too and promised to do better and to show that he cares more. He has also not met or seen many pictures of my daughter since she was born during this time.
Now he sends memes and small talk type stuff. Frankly, I don't feel like responding to those messages because what I want is actual connecting instead of just "what's up?". Because whenever I do tell him how things are going, it's a one or two word response or the reply is somehow geared towards himself. I'm also very skeptical about how genuine this is.....I don't want to be hoovered back into the situation when I have so painstakingly maintained VLC/NC. I can't help but feeling guilty though that I'm shutting out my parents. But my life is a lot simpler and less stressful.
My husband wants me to cut them out entirely. I don't know what's best. Any insight appreciated.
