Game always crashes halfway through level?

I’m mostly making this post because I feel like I’m going crazy lol. I bought Wonders of Sodor and was really looking forward to completing Thomas’ timetable, but I literally can’t because for some reason during most of the levels the game will be running completely smoothly, then suddenly go to a black screen or the main menu, with just the sound of Thomas chuffing in the background. I cannot exit the game or even pull up my task manager. I have to shut down my laptop every time. It is extremely annoying and disheartening because I’ve been wanting to play this game so bad :( The same thing happens when I try to play the Thomas and Bertie level as well.

I’m not really expecting a solution. I’ve done everything I can to try to improve the performance of my computer. I’m just wondering if anyone else has come across this glitch? If I know other people are experiencing it maybe I’ll feel less insane lol.
