Large salary raise has left me clueless on what next
Hi all, I'm a 27 M living in Ontario. I've been working in IT for the last 3 years and at my current employer I've been working for, I gained a few big bumps in salary that are coming up.
Starting: $55,000 New salary as of July: $85,000 New salary as of August: $100,000 I expect another salary raise to $110,000 in January
I have nothing in my RRSP, but I do have $5,800 in my FHSA, and $10,000 in my TFSA. I only aggressively started saving earlier this year when I realized it was probably time to get it together as I do want to buy a house one day.
Should I start stashing money away in my RRSP once I've maxed out my FHSA? (I have $15,000 contribution room since I only put in $1,000 in December of 2025). Do I claim it on this year's tax or wait till I'm in a higher bracket?
I do have a 4% car loan at $19,000 right now (will be lower by Dec), I have planned to make a $10,000 lump sum at the end of the year which should bring it down to 3-4 grand once it's all said and done. Apart from that, I have a $6,000 OSAP loan at 0% interest, I'm in no rush to pay that off but if it's the wiser option then so be it.
Am I thinking about all of this correctly? I've always been low income so this money is life changing and I only expect myself to grow.
