question about airfare/flying from NYC

hi- we (4 adults and 4 kids) are going to costa rica from NYC from about April 22 to May 1 2027. First time there. Flights just started becoming available and they’re either wild layovers, wild departure times, or over $1k for a ticket. Will this get better? Our dates are aligned with NYC public school spring break which usually impact prices. Also- war and oil costs. Should I wait or grab the first sort of reasonable thing I see? Any kind advice welcome!!!
