Anyone know how to go about dealing with FNSD? (Functional Neurological System Disorder)
Recently diagnosed with both FNSD and chronic pain, and even though the disorder was played down by my doctors by saying how it was "so common!!!" and "not even technically harmful", it still hurts like a bitch and is worsening by the minute.
I just got out of the hospital after 3 days because I had full body paresthesia, worsened muscle spasms & stuttering, severe pain with everything I touched, stumbling around like a drunkard, and was constantly dizzy/fatigued since Friday (it is currently Wednesday, and it still hasn't gone away).
Then I was basically told
"Welp, there's no cure, you're pretty much immune to all pain medications, our treatment plans are unlikely to help you as much as it may others since this seems to have been going on for years and you've tried most of the methods already, and it's only seeming to get worse by the day... But hey, at least it wont kill you!.. Physically." and sent on my merry way with a bottle of melatonin and pity-eyed "Good luck"s from the nurses.
I'm now waiting on being accepted into an Adolescent Services group or whatever it's called that deals with chronic pain and conditions like FNSD specifically, but I'm Canadian and if there's one thing we're NOT known for it's speedy delivery in the medical field.
My symptoms are worsening by the day, and all I've been prescribed for treatment is nursing home level exercises that I do anyways because it's all basically stretching, and my ass can't do much more other than walk & pick things up for no longer than 15 minutes. (Not to mention I was literally told my issues aren't caused by muscle weakness. Like at all. And that me walking long distances and moving heavy objects was making my pain WORSE... So I guess I just can't do fuck all?)
I was also informed that, not only did it seem I naturally need more drug-like substances to have any effect on me whatsoever, but that my pain may not even be able to be dulled by ANY medications AT ALL.
And it was made known to me that, since I've likely had this disorder since I was like 10, it may not naturally go away for me like it does other people. So fun!
I'm under 18 and homeless, so my options of doing things on my own program-wise are extremely limited since a lot of out-of-hospital groups/treatments/supports require payment and/or a parent to be present; when parents are around doctors treat you like a dog. At most you're seen as what you're considered legally: your parent's property. Nothing more, sometimes something less depending on who you're seeing. I wish I was exaggerating, but to them you could literally be missing limbs and if an adult is in the room talking about how you don't have many friends or have are falling behind in school, they're wheeling you out the front door within the hour. I could go on about that, but if I do I'll never stfu so moving on-
Overall, I'm not sure how to go about dealing with this, now knowing that pretty much all I can do on my own is some yoga and prayers. Any treatment they did say that might help me was estimated to only slowly start taking effect after YEARS.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I have yet to hear of anyone else my age with all the issues I have, despite it apparently being so common.
And honestly, the most funny thing about this is that whenever a brain scan or bloodwork would come back clean, the news would be told to me starting with "Usually I'd be happy to tell patients this..." and end with "...So, it's good news!..(?)"
I don't think we can gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss our way out of this one, chat.
Thanks for reading 🔥
