My spouse 40M is arrogant. Me 30F
I can't work right now. I have a myriad of health issues and chronic pain. My spouse offered to move in with me to help me with bills, so I can focus on my health. While that is nice, I don't think I'll be happy living with him.
He used to work in serving, but he's always had a natural talent in sales and typically outperforms his colleges.
He just started this new job. When he was in training, he'd make comments on how other people were handling calls and said things along the lines of " it helps me know what not to do". He always says how his coworkers look up to him and ask him for advice as to how to handle calls and generate sales.
It just seems like he brags about his own strengths while constantly comparing it to other people. And subtly putting them down. This has become a pattern now
Whenever he talks about work, he brags about how much extra money he's made. For example, he will mention how much extra money he will make every week due to the sales he's generated.
Today, he said that he is getting more sales than the top performer. Management spoke to him and praised him on how well he's doing.
It's just incredibly annoying and exhausting listening to him talk like this all the tine. It isn't confidence, it's blatant arrogance to me.
I don't feel like confident people need to boast about their accomplishments all the time.
I'm beginning to feel like he's saying stuff like this because hes fishing for compliments and validation. I always say things along the lines of "you're doing good" You're a great performer" And validating his achievements, but at the same time, I don't want it to get to his head...
I've considered saying "that's nice" then changing the topic. It's just exhausting feeling like I need to constantly validate him and stroke his ego. And by doing this, I feel like I could be part of the problem.
I don't think he means to do it intentionally, but I can't help but feel like he's rubbing it in my face.
He just acts like a different person when he works in sales. It's always about how much money he makes and how he outperforms everyone in his team, how he's doing better than the top sellers and everyone else, EtBut unfortunately, it comes across as arrogance to me...
I've been meaning to talk to him about this, but I don't want to dim his light or hurt his feelings in any way. It's just exhausting to listen to.
If this was you, what would you say to them?
