Questioning partner suitability across different lifestyles and incomes (white collar + blue collar)

I (37f/) met someone (35-ish?/m) at a coffee shop a few weeks ago. We have wild chemistry, but the longer we spend time with each other, the more concerned I am about continuing to see him. Here's why:

I'm a white-collar worker. I'm transitioning to work on a freelance, part-time basis because freedom and free time is more important to me than increasing my earnings — at this stage of my life, I'm comfortable with what I have. Over the course of my career I've saved and invested well, so these days I just need to cover my own expenses, which are not incredibly high despite my penchant for nice dinners and trips.

He sublets a rent-stabilized apartment that his ex's mother lets to him in order to cover rent on a small studio, builds motocycles (he's a biker), and does odd jobs to make ends meet. He's not a slacker at all, he just doesn't earn much. He works to live, not lives to work. He saves a bit here and there, but he's definitely not even in the same ballpark in terms of finances. Despite this, he insists on paying for our meals and drinks, which while not expensive, has been starting to make me feel uncomfortable because I am so aware of our financial disparity. As someone who has been a caretaker for my entire life, I love that he wants to take care of me, but I simultaneously feel guilty about it.

I've been in previous relationships where I was the partner with financial stability, and I disliked the dynamic because I'm overly Type A as it is and have family history of having to take care of others, and it works against the balance within a relationship when I have to assume a financially dominant role.

His studio itself was a bit traumatizing to visit, because it was quite untidy and even dirty (from motor oil, I think). He recognized that it was super messy and told me he intended to renovate it so I could be comfortable there.

He's intelligent, but not well-educated. He's asks me about my opinions on things like AI and politics — which I am actively engaged in discussing and thinking about — purely because he likes me and wants to know about what I'm into. Even though this is incredibly sweet and even if he understands and agrees with my politics, there's a part of me that feels a gap in the dynamic because it's not a conversation between two equals on a topic, but instead two people with vastly different sets of knowledge. Despite that, we've had pretty good conversations so far, and I enjoy spending time with him.

We agree about desiring freedom — but freedom to him is his motorcycle, his club, the open road, a full pack of cigarettes, and a great wardrobe. Freedom to me is being able to not have to think about money, to work on things that align with my values and better the world, to travel, to live well. We both like nice things, but I can much more easily afford them.

I feel a bit sad typing this out because it seems like our differences are too vast to overcome. I like him and he likes me, but I fully acknowledge that it might be the case that I can't overlook the lifestyle and income gaps. I've been pumping the breaks because I'm afraid of going down a path of heartbreak on both of our accounts.

Tell me reddit, am I overthinking this? Am I a total classist asshole? What's your take?
