Great success tonight
Needed to share my great success with someone and I’m pretty sure my only other kid-having friend is tired of my late night texts 😅
We have 5 week old twins and one of them is, for lack of a better word, the difficult one. He’s not a great sleeper, struggled with gas very early on, and now has terrible screaming arching silent reflux. He’s on medication for it as well as thickened formula but that has so far only helped a little.
Anyways, it’s been a rough day. He’s been extra fussy and struggled to nap all day. After his 8pm feeding after which we normally put them to bed he has become inconsolable. Screaming, crying, real ass tears (he figured out how to make those a week ago and it breaks my wife’s heart.) Not sure if it’s reflux, overtiredness, witching hour, or what.
We’ve gone down the entire checklist multiple times.. burped, changed, not hungry, not gassy. We’ve tried laying him down, keeping him upright, baby wearing, singing, shushing, making him warmer, making him colder, crying with him. No joy.
In a spark of genius, I remembered my wife had a yoga ball from the pregnancy and some babies like being bounced. Out comes the yoga ball and… 30 seconds in he stops screaming, 60 seconds in he stops hyperventilating, and 90 seconds in he’s dead asleep. Five minutes later he’s down in his bassinet.
I’m now basking in the glory of a silent house and a wife who thinks I’m the baby whisperer.
Wish me luck when they wake up to eat again in an hour..
