Help explaining this power:
I don't know if this is the most appropriate place to make this post, but I guess I'll find out shortly. I'm an amateur horror writer and I'm currently making plans for a rewrite of a gritty and dark superhero series called The Boys. Chances are pretty good you've already heard of it since it's still fairly popular right now, but I'll still give an explanation for those who might not be aware:
\
The Boys is an Amazon Prime TV show adapted from a comic series of the same name. All superheroes on the show get their powers from a chemical substance created by a Nazi geneticist during World War 2 called Compound V. It's usually given to babies since the odds of an adult surviving the rapid mutations V causes and successfully integrating the serum into their system is about 50/50 at best. V can have a wide variety of different effects for those who survive and there's generally no way to reliably guess what powers someone will get. Compound V is privately owned by a company called Vought International which pretends to manage superheroes, but really they run horrific experiments and cover for supes on their payroll when they screw things up to profit off the public's love for them. The vast majority of supes on this show are also hedonistic maniacs and assholes, by the way. The series goes to a lot of really dark places during its run.
\
Anyways, one of the most powerful V users working for Vought is Homelander. I won't get into the specific details of his backstory, since they aren't really important here, but I will be listing the powers he got from having his embryo shot up with V:
\
1: Flight.
\
2: Invulnerability.
\
3: Super Strength.
\
4: Super Speed.
\
5: Heat Vision.
\
6: X-Ray Vision.
\
7: Super Hearing.
\
8: Super Smell.
\
There are a few others, but those are the most prominent. Basically, he's like an evil Superman. Except he's thankfully a lot weaker than any standard version of Superman. Anyways, in my rewrite of the series, I'm planning to depict Compound V as an alchemical substance derived from the Philosopher's Stone which gives supes the ability to transform different kinds of energy and matter to achieve feats that defy normal science rather than just being something that triggers rapid mutations with semi-random results. But I'm currently struggling to think of an explanation for how Homelander can fly which makes sense with this setup. I usually imagine characters like him using some variation of telekinesis to fly, but that really has more to do with moving themselves through the air with their minds than transmuting matter. Can someone here give me any ideas?
