Huawei MateBook D16 Touchpad Randomly Stops Working (Windows 11)

Windows 11

Hi everyone,
I’m having a strange issue with my Huawei MateBook D16 and I’m hoping someone has experienced something similar.
Laptop:
Huawei MateBook D16
Intel Core i5 13th Gen (H-series)
Windows 11
Problem:
The issue started recently.
At first, only some touchpad gestures would randomly stop working while I was using the laptop. For example, two-finger scrolling would suddenly stop working, even though the touchpad itself could still move the cursor.
Sometimes the gesture functionality would come back on its own after a while. Other times, restarting the laptop or signing out and back in would temporarily fix it.
Recently, the problem has become worse. Now the entire touchpad sometimes stops responding completely while I’m using the laptop. The cursor won’t move and none of the gestures work.
A restart usually fixes it temporarily, but the problem keeps returning.
Touchpad information from Device Manager:
Human Interface Devices → HID-compliant touch pad
Human Interface Devices → I2C HID Device
Mice and other pointing devices → HID-compliant mouse
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Version: 10.0.26100.1150
Driver Date: 6/21/2006 (Microsoft generic driver)
Things I’ve tried:
Contacted Microsoft Support 3 times
Ran Windows troubleshooting/repair tools
Checked Windows Update
Looked for newer touchpad drivers, but I couldn’t find any newer versions
Additional information:
Sometimes only the gestures stop working while the cursor still moves.
Sometimes the gestures start working again by themselves without restarting.
Other times the whole touchpad stops working completely.
The issue appears randomly during normal use.
Questions:
Does this sound like a driver issue, a Windows issue, or a hardware problem?
Has anyone experienced this on a Huawei MateBook D16?
Are there any Huawei-specific touchpad drivers or fixes I should try?
Could the I2C HID Device be causing the touchpad to disconnect intermittently?
Any help would be appreciated.
