Vendors using photos

general topic

How do you feel about vendors asking for your photos in exchange for a tag?

When I first started doing weddings, i was taught to always send photos to all vendors after the wedding. The thing is I've never seen any noticeable exposure or bookings come from this, so i stopped sending albums preemptively and only granted access to those who asked. Now most vendors dont even ask me, they go through my clients to access the photos even though my clients are asked not to do this.

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not that big of a deal, but it rubs me the wrong way that people feel entitled to use my work for free marketing material when it does nothing for me and is usually coming from a place of entitlement rather than gratitude.

Especially this one DJ business that has been emailing before the wedding every time we work together and asking that I specifically take pictures of the DJ for their website (asking for specific shots, not just general dance floor photos). Like sorry but why would I take time out of my client's coverage to have a mini photoshoot for your business? All for a tag on a social media account with 78 followers.

At this point I only offer to share photos with the occasional planner or venue if we hit it off. But idk, maybe I'm being to cynical.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
