most gut wrenchingly paralyzingly sad songs you have ever heard. bonus points if the singer can't sing.
I love sad music and I love crying to sad music even more. There have only been a select few songs that legitimately move me every single time and are like paralyzingly sad. I'm also looking for more nuanced music than pure sadness. I want songs that are like overflowing with so much emotion that the first note immediately like snaps you to attention and your day is ruined.
Some of my favorites that id love if people had any similar ones to:
Waco Texas - Ethel Cain. she is my favorite artist of all time ever and all of her music has this brimming with pure emotion quality that I absolutely adore. I know her discography inside and out and i'd love to hear some similar music sonically and lyrically. (I know searows and nicole dollananger are typically the first to be recommended... i'm already familiar with both!!)
Among the Wildflowers - the hotelier. this song is SO raw. my go to when I want to feel something from music. i've not been as into midwest emo in recent years but I used to really love it, so anything from under that umbrella is welcome.
Noccalula - waxahatchee. i'm not too familiar with her discography, so if she has more songs like this lmk!! i love how personal and train-of-thought this one sounds. Like she wrote this in 10 minutes on her piano. its also about a friendship and not a romantic relationship which i like.
Poison Oak - bright eyes. i feel like these guys are on every single sad music thread for good reason. the first time i heard this song was like getting hit by a bus.
Claws in your back - Julien Baker. Someone needs to check on her because idk what you have to go through in order to create this. Her voice is insane.
I think a commonality with my specific songs is that they aren't your typical sad poppy breakup song, they're so much more layered and unique. I love an Olivia Rodrigo ballad, but its not quite what i'm looking for now.
I am also not looking for any Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Lana Del Rey, Mitski, Phoebe Bridgers, Car Seat Headrest, or Elliot Smith. I know and love them already!
And i'm open to literally any genre. Thank you!!!
