Muggy Heat and Irritability

Emotional Regulation & Rejection Sensitivity

I have always hated the weather growing up in GA and would spend most of the year inside. I moved to a higher elevation about 10 years ago and while it would still get hot in the summer, the difference in humidity and duration of heat was a DRASTIC change for my well being. I ended up having to move back to GA recently and I have been absolutely dying.

I can't tell if it's because I know now how much better it could be in a climate that supports my nervous system but it seems like my intolerance has gotten way worse. I can't think straight and feel agitated/activated 24/7. It feels muggy as hell all day and all night and there's no escape or break from it. I had to go back up to the mountains recently and as soon as I reached my old town, my entire body relaxed and I started crying from relief. I had to deal with some stressful situations but I was able to think, function, and handle everything. If I had to do those things here in Atlanta, I would have had a breakdown through the whole process.

I think the traffic plus the heat is making me feel insane and overstimulated. My husband is wanting to stay around GA because the cost of living is more balanced to the jobs around but I am begging him to go back to the mountains because I don't think I can just push past this and get over it. His job is remote so we could do it but it would make it harder for me to get a decent job for sure and we'd only be able to afford a small house. I try to talk about it with other people and they treat my issue like it's a preference I can medicate or therapy my way out of.

I don't have any medical explanations but I have ADHD, OCD, and CPTSD. Sensory wise I prefer to cover all my skin and wear socks to feel at ease so you can imagine how much worse that makes trying to go out and do anything when it's 90 degrees and 99% humidity. Back in the mountains I could wear long sleeves and socks and be comfortable all year long. I'm torn on what to do. It is clearly affecting my ability to function but I hate that my "condition" could affect my kids and husbands ability to have more opportunities in a bigger place.
