My wedding gift, the truth
For those unfamiliar with the situation, I was in love and ready to propose to this girl, complete with a ring.
I had fallen in love with my high school sweetheart, and I couldn’t have been happier. However, things took a turn when she began hiding parts of her life that, in a healthy relationship, would be discussed openly. I noticed her smiling at her phone and blushing while thinking to herself over the past few weeks. She had even turned her profiles to hidden and created secret ones that she didn’t think I would see.
The final blow came when we had planned a getaway for the two of us. I was finally ready to ask her to marry me, so I had bought the ring I knew was for her. Just a week before our trip, she started telling me that she wanted to rethink our relationship. She said it calmly, as if it had been on her mind for some time. My world stopped. I couldn’t believe she would stop a getaway we had both been planning and excited about for months. I couldn’t believe that all that time and money I put forth into trying for our relationship to be tossed away.
I responded and told her that I understood and was willing to give her time apart. I had felt the void growing between us as well, but I wanted to fight for us. I asked her if there was anything I could do to repair what I might have broken.
Again, she was cold. She responded that there was nothing I could do and that I shouldn’t worry about it. She stopped saying I love you after that. But I still had hope that everything was a misunderstanding. I was distraught, so I started looking into things and realized the truth. Those emails for new accounts, the new friends with the same number as hers on my feed—how could I have been so stupid?
I still want to ruin things for her, but I’m trying to move past it. Even after everything, she was the first person who truly set me free from my past limitations and showed me love. Even though that love was only there until we didn’t have our child and then cheated on me until she left.
Good luck with the rest of your life.
