Can I change my in game “gamertag” later on? (Splatoon 3)

I am in the process of picking a new username/gamertag for NSO.

I know I can change the username and display name on my Nintendo account, but I’m not sure if you can do that within Splatoon 3. For example, you can’t change your character name in animal crossing new horizons.

I want to start playing and learning but not commit too much if I’m inevitably needing to restart again after that.
