Financial Infidelity …I’m lost now

Firstly I apologize for length of question/story. I am a retired nurse and worked hard alongside my husband who is a mechanic. (2nd marriage) I came into our relationship with a large sum of money and was able to buy a home on property that had a huge shop. My husband was able to start a mechanic shop and worked hard for many years. Once we hit our late 50’s. I made my dream come true and bought a house on a lake & listed our original home. Market crashed & we lost over a half million on the property. We took the loss and got what I thought was a mortgage for $125,000. Well… my husband never told me he owed the government $250,000 in back taxes to the government. I have lost everything now. I’m heartbroken beyond. He states he didn’t want to upset me as we were dealing with our 4yr old Grandson getting brain cancer. Taxes do not accumulate that quickly…tell me what you think your reaction or any ideas… I appreciate you all.
