I finally decided to end a "friendship"
After many years of being manipulated, I finally decided to just ignore them. Every meeting, every conversation was about them. There was always something "big" going on with their life, so big that my problems didn't matter - or mattered only for quick exchange of few sentences just to go back to their topic. I let myself believe that their life is so hard cause all they had were issues and dramas with other friends, colleagues, family members... until I finally realised that they were the problem. And me as well, because I believed they cared about me.
But they needed me only to fulfill their need of attention. They would tell me that I'm their best friend, we're going to be friends until we're old and all these lies to keep me close (but never too close). I kept giving them my time and energy. I truly believed they considered me their friend - but I finally realised I was just a tool to regulate. I started to research about toxic friendships and finally stumbled upon the topic of narcissistic friends. And it finally clicked... I feel free. I know their crash out is coming but I'll let that happen. They will probably blow up my phone, send me paragraphs of texts or something. Go ahead, I'm not falling for that trick anymore. I'll just block you, lol.
The signs were there. Sometimes their mask would slip only to get back up -but the damage was done. I realized that after every interaction there were some subtle signs of showing me disrespect, like tiny little needles. Only because I believed they cared about me... only because I have a heart.
