For people dealing with parents who wont clean. How do you guys clean without causing a meltdown?
INFO: Dad moved in due to health issues. Siblings couldn't take him due to financials/trauma. So we took him to alleviate burden. Hes been here 3 yrs.
My dad was a boarding school/maid kid so he never cleaned as a kid, and married/had kids young so our mothers and us daughters have always done the cleaning for him. Before he got sick he lived alone for 5 yrs in a dusty, dog hair filled, unkempt house. He and his home STANK.
Now that he lives in my home (doesnt leave EVER 😮💨) he has started noticing what it takes to keep a home clean. When he moved in he complained about the products. I compromised by only using "Dad approved" products on his things and in "His room". But for the last few years hes been on me about how I use too many chemicals/brands/smelly stuff around my house.
Now, im aware i keep an unusually clean home. Im a SAHM and i love cleaning. I know quite a bit about family/pet friendly products and even more about "natural" methods. This last year my dads been overbearing about "natural" things. He thinks that baking soda and vinegar sanitizes (it doesnt) and sun/fresh air kills germs (a bit of this IS true but it will NOT kill illness causing viruses).
Ive tried explaining this but as usual I "dont know anything", the brand corpos "brainwashed me" and im a woman so im not to be trusted.
How do I get him to stop whining about my cleaning? I've compromised on his things and space, but im not compromising on the rest of my home. Has anyone successfully stopped or even eased this behavior?
Please understand "Kick him out" is not going to happen. Im also not looking for a big blowout argument either. Just experienced people who have found ways to successfully set boundaries for this stuff.
