Moving on
Hi All! I’m super new to Reddit but thought I give it a shot. I was blindsided about a month ago by my boyfriend of about a year. He broke up with me out of the blue after he took me to meet his family overseas. It was a lovely trip and we all got along splendidly. We were looking at apartments and actively trying to have a child (both pushing 40, and both wanted children, so we made the decision that we were all in). His reason for breaking up with me was that “I’ve put on weight and he is losing attraction for me”. To be fair, I put on 8 lbs, but I very quickly lost it post break up. I told him I appreciate him being honest, but that there were other ways he could have told this to me without being hurtful. He said, and I quote, that “I check a lot of his boxes but the health box and he and his friends wouldn’t want to wait on me while we were hiking and I lagged behind”. I am a 5’11” woman, weigh 155 lbs and wear a size 8 pants and am relatively healthy. During the relationship, I realized he is a SUPER avoidant person and would get very cold when I asked him to bring a little more empathy into our harder conversations. And he would need space for a few days. When I stood up for myself and told him that he needs to be kind in the way he brings up criticism so that the other person can accept the feedback, he ended it. Typing this out is actually helping me see how silly this whole thing was, but it was a very real relationship. Tips for moving on? We randomly saw each other yesterday, we waved and kept walking which has brought back all the emotions again.
