Parents told me their getting divorced five days before a big family trip - Do I go?
I (F19) was recently told that my parents are getting divorced. It came as a surprise to most of the family, except my dad. On top of all the other ways this needs to be handled and delt with, my parents keep asking me if I still want to go on the big family trip we had planned months ago. My mom is no longer going, but my dad is. My mom has repeatedly told me its okay either way, but I have no idea what to do.
(please excuse if this isn't written well or doesn't make any sense, I'm still struggling at the moment.)
I had been so excited for this trip, and was looking forward to it for a long time. I'm still in the phase of being anxious and sad most of the time though, and am still sort of uncomfortable being alone with my dad right now. To clarify, he did nothing wrong, but I'm still struggling with this whole thing, and he was the one to instigate.
The main problems are this: I'm uncomfortable being alone with my dad and I'm not sure I'll be able to enjoy it since I'm still so upset. On the other side, it cost a lot of money to book everything (my dad can still get some money back), I'm worried I'll regret not going, and I don't want to hurt my dad, who planned this trip.
If anyone has any advice or even just a suggestion about how to bring up these issues with them, I'd really appreciate it.
