Twin Lance Pistol

Hi, I barely played in 10 edition and returning for 11th, I put Twin Lance on board fist time today and was told that their Shardstorm burst system cannot be used in shooting phase with their other guns as it is a pistol. Is that true and if so what is the point of it, as we can still shoot into the combat with Big Guns Never Tire?
