My interpretation
Has to tone else written interpretations of Backrooms like mine?
*Spoilers*
I see it as a sweet allegory for the male loneliness epidemics and incel culture. It builds layers upon layers of isolated unreality built on ever more distant and diluted memories of real life, real connections etc. the more denial one is in, the less accountability one is willing to make, the deeper one sinks.
"I can't save you... You can stay if you want, but let me go."
A therapist can't force you to take accountability for your shit. Either take it or live your secluded alone and isolated dream life where you're never wrong. And of course Clark thinks it's all about him. But it's bigger than him. It's the world of denial built by every psycho diluted asshole who refused to really do their own work.
And the impotent scientists trying to just study it without actually doing any real work either. They swear they are just trying to really understand as they unwittingly help grow more levels of misinterpreted bullshit to the world. They are also asking the therapist to give them answers. But the whole therapeutic paradigm has itself become an empty echo chamber.
Backrooms is the most satisfying allegory of our times I've seen recently, but no one writing about it seems to get it. They think it's all random unknowable horror shit. But it's so much more!
