For the love of all gods and everything that is holy...

There's an older gal at work that's a little abrasive, but she and I mostly get along. She is a full timer and gets in at what I call "stupid hours" (a.k.a. like 2 or 3 in the morning) so she's gone by 10am most days. Her job is the shoe department and she's good at it. Imma just call her Shoes.

Like many companies, we have hand held computers to do our daily tasks on. They have specific put-away spaces per department and each department typically has them locked up because some assholes will go round taking any hand held that's not nailed down. Then there are the people who put the handheld they like into their locker or filing cabinet, or an opaque box where they work thereby short changing all other shifts for devices. This is against policy.

Yesterday, Shoes left around 10am like usual. By 11:30, the device she put in her locker was going off incessantly with the annoying jingle that implores the user to either put it on the dock or log back in. A couple of us were trying to enjoy our lunch while this loud, incessant jingle played from Shoes company locker. Finally someone went to the store secretary and begged them to open the locker and turn the damn thing off.

Secretary got HR and the assistant store manager to witness while she got the spare key and opened the locker to find the device. Except Shoes didn't just have the device in her locker, she had the device in a combination locked box inside her locker. Secretary turned to the assistant store director shocked and sounded pissed off "WHO SANCTIONED A LOCK BOX???" They put Shoes stuff back in her locker, locked it back up, and walked away to the office.

IDK what exactly was discussed, but I'm going to guess that Shoes is going to get an earfull when she returns to work. But for the love of pete, if you're gonna break policy and hoard equipment, at least turn it off before you lock it away...
