Lab Refused to Draw for my Bloodwork

Hi all!

I’m a 33 yo female and I recently had a full panel of bloodwork done. My copper came back really high (like three times what the high end of normal is) and at my visit on 5/18/26, my doctor told me to have it retaken before my next visit, which isn’t until August.

I finally got a bit of time off work so I went to a Quest Diagnostics lab today and was told they would not draw for the order because the expected date on the order was 5/18 and that was more than 7 days ago?? What? Is this normal? The order has no expiration date. It just says expected date, with the date of my last appointment and has “approximate, before next appointment” in parentheses.

Need to know if this is my fault for not going sooner or if the person assigned to my appointment was incorrect. I’m annoyed because I now have to take time off work to schedule another appointment after I call my doctor about the order. I’ve gone to this same lab before with orders that were six months old (another before next appointment set of labs) and never had an issue.
