Claude ran `rm -rf` on my work. I built a skill so that can never hurt me again (40s demo)

Skill Share

Last month Claude Code ran an rm -rf during a "cleanup" and took a chunk of work that wasn't committed yet. No staging, no checkpoint that helped, just gone. I sat there for a second doing the math on how many hours I'd lost.

So I went looking for why the safety nets didn't catch it, and the answer annoyed me enough to build something:

- git only helps if you committed (or at least staged) — uncommitted/untracked work is invisible to it, and if the repo folder itself gets deleted, so does .git.

- /rewind and checkpoints track Claude's Edit/Write tool calls. They do NOT track Bash. rm -rf runs through Bash. That's the hole every "Claude deleted my files" thread falls through.

The skill snapshots your working files right before a destructive command runs, and restores them byte-for-byte with /restore. Local, no account, no cloud. It also asks Claude to audit its own code before it installs, so you can verify it instead of trusting me.

Not trying to spam the sub — happy to answer "why not just git / why not checkpoints" in the comments, that's the whole point. Has this happened to anyone else? Curious how much work people have lost this way.
