Why do some people not like me now that I’m more put together?

Other

I definitely wasn’t the prettiest in the room growing up. I was quiet, shy, insecure, and had terrible mental health.

The only reason I looked ‘okay’ was because my mum would make sure I always showered, kept up with my hygiene, and wore clean clothing etc.

I’m 24 now, and it’s taken me around 4 years, but I’m finally feeling happy. I can say I have a sense of style which people compliment me on, I finally have clear skin, and overall I lost a little weight so I feel better overall.

I’m also incredibly grateful because I have managed to find myself a great job. I’ve been invited to lots of events and opportunities with overnight stays which is crazy!! Never thought this would be my life.

However, there are some people who just don’t like me (most people I know).

I don’t like boasting and prefer remaining private, but the odd time I do mention a work trip, or I’m wearing something expensive (which I bloody saved up for because I didn’t grow up rich), they make me feel bad about myself.

It’s also the same with men. I didn’t receive any attention from men and still haven’t held hands with a man, never mind meeting a guy.

But when I mention my type physically (genuinely just someone who is muscular and masculine looking), I’m told to lower my standards and I’m expecting too much. I don’t think I am because my type is just masculine, I don’t care about colour or hair colour or anything.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I’m beginning to feel even more insecure than before. I feel as though I can’t talk about myself or my success to anyone in my life.
