Hi all,

I've got an around 11 year old monterrey oak tree, located in central Texas. Having ignored it for far too many years, it's grown into a lean of about 20 degrees, with about a 19" circumference. I'm interested in figuring out potential options for straightening it out.

I had an ISA certified arborist come check it out today, and they weren't confident that it can be done. They suggested air spading it, assessing the roots and potentially cutting some, then trying to move the tree, but they said that would really all be pretty experimental, would likely wind up causing more problems, and didn't sound super confident in the idea (which makes sense), so I'm not sure what to do.

The tree seems perfectly healthy to me, and the arborist didn't mention any health concerns with it; it's definitely just grown in this way; I'm pretty sure there's no underlying problem causing issues. I'll also note that the tree is leaning in a direction where if it were to fall over, it likely wouldn't damage anything, so I'm not concerned about that

We've tried putting a 7' T-post about 5' into the ground and using a ratchet strap on it, but the tree seems too strong to be overcome by that; it just seems like the more tension we put on the strap, the more it wants to pull the post out, or break the strap, which makes sense. My husband's thought is to dig a reasonably large hole (enough for hundreds of pounds of concrete) and set some kind of anchor into that, then use a wire-rope style ratchet strap to try and move the tree little by little.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated!
